I am currently working on a manuscript for teaching
an introductory class to secondary level students. This manuscript offers to demystify the process of teaching art to
secondary students. This manuscript is written for art educators and aspiring undergraduate and graduate art education
students that are pursuing a career in teaching. Whether the reader is at the introductory levels of education classes,
lab school, practicum or student teaching they could learn from this book. This manuscript is written by a reflective and
seasoned professional within the field. Because this manuscript was written by an experienced teacher it will appeal
to both the new and veteran art teacher that needs a structured system of building or rebuilding their own syllabus.
The lessons, and lesson design process in the manuscript are useful for teaching secondary level art students traditional
representational techniques. National Visual Arts Standards are referenced in the process of creating lessons. The main
emphasis of the manuscript is building authentic art skills that focus on the elements and principles of art. The elements
of art such as line, form, and value are emphasized in each lesson because nearly all art whether it is abstract or not builds
from these. This manuscript offers the teacher a systematic approach to increasing their students own personal capacity
in art. Once they have done this the students are strong enough to honestly represent their world. This manuscript
offers a logical, and successful method of helping the art teacher and the art students.
